The Port Harcourt team is expected to receive automobiles from the state government after their triumph last season

Players of Nigeria Premier League champions Dolphins are expected to receive brand new cars from the Rivers State government in return for their championship winning run of last season.

Fred Igwe, the state’s sports commissioner announced to the players in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea just before their Confederation of Africa Football (Caf) Champions League victory against Sony Ela de Nguema that the state governor has given approval for cars for the players.

“I want to tell you now that the government of the state is behind you in all you have been doing so far,” Igwe was quoted in a media release.

“We now have approval to give each and every one of you a car. I know that approval is not cash but we will pursue it with vigour until we host you all to a proper reception for winning the League. What is delaying now is the supply of the cars. As soon as the cars come in, we will call you all and hand the keys over to you.”

In 2004, players of Dolphins got Volkswagen Polo cars for winning the League and Cup double while in 2007 they got Kia Cerato cars for winning the FA Cup. Sister club Sharks also got cars for winning the WAFU Cup in December of 2010.
