Nigeria demand Turkish explanation for detaining the Fenerbahce forward who is under investigation concerning match-fixing allegations
“Our attention has been drawn to a report by Dogan News Agency of Turkey (and which has been widely publicised by the media across the world) concerning the arrest and detention of several persons in Turkish football, including our international player, Emmanuel Emenike, over allegations of soccer match-fixing,” a letter signed by Musa Amadu, the federation’s acting general secretary, the NFF said.
The report also said that police in Turkey are investigating the possible fixing of a final week match between Fenerbahce and Sivasspor, which ended in a 4-3 victory for the Istanbul club and helped it claim the league title.
“While we do not intend to, in any way, prejudice police investigations into this matter as we regard match-fixing and other cheating methods in football with disdain, we however request for the full details of the issues leading to the arrest and detention of our international player, Emmanuel Emenike. We equally note that Emmanuel Emenike only moved to Fenerbahce from Karabukspor at the close of last season.”
