The Karabukspor forward has notched 14 goals and this has brought interest from top Italian, Russian and Turkish clubs his way after he helped the modest side gain promotion last season. He is in line for a $14.5million transfer to Fenerbahce in the summer.
However, a big log now seems to stand on his path to greater success with the recent declaration by Turkish paper Haber Turk that the striker is older than the age that he claims on his passport.
Emenike who made his debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Sierra Leone in February is 24 years-old. Haber Turk have alleged that the striker is actually 31 years-old, which means he slashed seven years off his age.
In a swift reaction, Emenike has begun court action against the paper and may decide to quit Turkey altogether.
“I will seek judicial action and call my right,” Emenike was quoted by MTNfootball.com.
“This kind of news will make me leave Turkey. This is sad news that I don’t know where it is coming from and what they want to gain from it.”
His national coach Samson Siasia has spoken out in his support, squashing the rumour.
“He’s a young player and the age on his passport is his real age. If anyone wants to know anything about his age, they should verify from his family rather than resort to guess work,” said Siasia.
His agent Erdem Konyar has said he will go the Turkish federation and FIFA to clear the name of his ward.
As the agent of Emmanuel Emenike, I will personally pursue this subject until I clear the name of the player and I. This is a serious matter and will be dealt with with the most professional and accurate approach,'' Konya told the BBC.
