Korea: Lee Dong-Guk Close To National Team Recall?
The Lion King could be about to start roaring on the international stage once again...
The former Middlesbrough marksman has now managed six goals in six games this season and his name is even being mentioned with a recall to the national team.
The 30-year-old's latest effort was a ‘perfect hat-trick’ – a far post header, a 20-yard, left-foot screamer, and a smart right-foot finish.
“It is unusual to get such a big win away from home,” Lee said. “Personally, to score a hat-trick has a deep meaning for me.”
It is a far cry from the striker’s 18 months in the Premier League, when he failed to score a league goal.
He said, “As each game passes, I feel more confident and my goalscoring instinct is returning.
“We have lots of games in May but if we can maintain this pace then we can get some good results.”
With South Korea facing three vital qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in June, Lee could be in line for a recall.
He added, “There are many good players in the national team. If I was to get called up then I am confident that I could give a good account of myself.”
