South Korea have named a young
squad for their 2010 World Cup qualifier against UAE on June 6 as they aim to
move a step closer to South Africa.
Huh Jung-moo has called three new players to the 25-man strong roster and has also recalled in-form Choi Tae-uk for the first time in over three years.
Choi has been scoring goals for league leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors but there is no place for club-mate Lee Dong-gook.
“Lee Dong-guk is scoring goals but we need to watch him further. Having returned from a suspension, Lee Chun-soo is not 100 per cent yet. I will continue to watch him,” said coach Huh.
In come young strikers Yoo Byung-soo of Incheon United and Busan I’Park’s Yang Dong-hyun as well as Yokohama F Marinos defender Kim Kun-hwan.
“I have been watching these players for a while,” Huh said.
“When you watch them play, they can definitely compete on the national squad. Yang has recovered from his injury and Yoo’s shooting touch and goal scoring ability are among the best.”
European-based players such as Park Ji-sung of Manchester United and Park Chu-young will join up with the squad in Dubai.
The others gather for training in South Korea on May 28 before heading to Dubai two days later. Then follows a June 2 friendly with Oman.
