Diego Forlan, striker of Atletico Madrid and the Uruguayan national team, admitted that Uruguay's upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Chile and Paraguay are "fundamental" as they seek passage into South Africa 2010.

"The matches are always decisive, we always say the same, but now they are more important than ever. The second round has already started, this is the second match and there aren't too many matches left. There is less margin for error," Forlan declared to Agencia EFE.

Uruguay, who find themselves in fifth place of the South American World Cup qualifiers, will be after at least four points in their next two matches against Paraguay and Chile.

According to Forlan, both encounters are "complicated" particularly because Paraguay and Chile have been two of the strongest teams during the qualifying campaign.

"The first match with Paraguay, at home, will be tough because they are a team who have been playing very well, and they are in first place, and are doing things very well. Then comes the match with Chile, who will also be complicated."

Uruguay, two-time winners of the World Cup, have been rather inconsistent during the qualifiers, but they are always a threat no matter who they play.

"I always want to play for Uruguay and more so in these types of matches, these matches against Paraguay and Chile are crucial, because we are fighting for a place in the World Cup," he concluded.
