Demichelis: The Draw Was Fair
Martin Demichelis admitted that the 1-1 draw with Paraguay was a fair reflection of events on the field in their tight 2010 World Cup qualifier in Buenos Aires...
Martin Demichelis, who played an ordinary match in the centre of the Argentine defense, admitted that the result with Paraguay was a fair one, and despite some difficulty he was happy with Argentina's display in the second half.
"The Argentina of the second half is the one that we want, and it is the one that the fans want as well," affirmed the Bayern Munich centre-back.
Demichelis admitted that for their "(big) names Argentina are superior (to Paraguay), but they have to demonstrate this on the field."
Like the rest of the Argentine backline, Demichelis struggled to cope with the likes of Oscar Cardozo and Nelson Haedo Valdez, be he believes Argentina put on a good performance in the second half.
"We deserved the draw," insisted the former River Plate captain, who affirmed that in the first half Argentina "lost control of the match" but in the second half they "played some good football, and were always in Paraguay's half."
