Burkina Faso 4–2 Guinea
Burkina Faso hosted Guinea in the first game of the African World Cup Qualifiers, and they did not disappoint their fans, providing a stunning win over the unpredictable minnows.
In the African section’s liveliest game, Burkina Faso won 4-2 against a disappointed Guinea outfit. It took 23 minutes for the home side to get on the scoreboard with a goal from Mahamoudou Kere, with Alain Traore making it 2-0 soon afterwards.
Burkina Faso looked like they were running away with it when Moumouni Dagano made it a hat-trick for the hosts, but Pascal Feindouno pulled one back for Guinea from the penalty spot.
The home fans spurred Burkina Faso on, and Dagano was happy to oblige, scoring his second of the match and his side’s fourth. A late consolation from Kamil Zayatte did little to dampen the mood of Burkina Faso, content to have started their next qualification phase off well with a comprehensive win.
