Gattuso Dislocates Hand In Bizarre Accident
Italy’s injury curse has continued as Gennaro Gattuso is almost definitely out of Wednesday’s game with Georgia after undergoing surgery for a dislocation of the hand, which he suffered in a bizarre training ground accident.
Gattuso, who came on as a substitute for the Azzurri in their dismal 2-1 World Cup 2010 qualifying win in Cyprus last night, had been expected to start Wednesday’s test against Georgia in Udine.
However, the Milan midfielder is almost certain to miss that game after fracturing his wrist in a bizarre accident this afternoon.
Gattuso was taking part in a friendly game against a team of unemployed players at the Gradisca d’Isonzo training ground when he fell into the dugout on the side of the pitch, before banging his head and hurting his left wrist.
Gattuso was taken to hospital for X-rays, and under the supervision of Italy doctor Enrico Castellacci, the midfielder has now undergone surgery to correct a dislocated bone in his left hand.
It has not yet been revealed how long Gattuso will be out of action for, but one assumes that he will definitely miss Italy’s match with Georgia, while he could also be in serious doubt for a number of Milan games.
Italy are currently having something of an injury nightmare as they lost defenders Fabio Grosso and Alessandro Gamberini within the first 15 minutes against Cyprus last night, and both are also out of Wednesday’s clash.
