A hat-trick from Giuseppe Mascara gave Catania a close-fought home win over Torino at the Angelo Massimino stadium.

Riccardo Colombo opened the scoring for Torino early on, and that kicked the Sicilians into high gear, at which point Mascara promptly equalised and put things on a level footing again.

Later in the game, Mascara pushed Catania ahead and the Granata then levelled the scores just five minutes after the break from a Nicola Amoruso penalty. Ten minutes from time, Mascara capped the afternoon off with his third - the game winning goal.

After yesterday afternoon's victory against Torino, Catania president Pulvirenti has noted that Mascara had scored his three goals against a club that seems interested in acquiring him.

The Granata are reportedly searching the market for a striker who would provide them with a boost up front.

Pulvirenti said, “Certainly Mascara is a great player, one who understands and deserves to play in Serie A. Today he is a Catania player, but it's true that an offer could arrive. Could it be Cairo? Well, we are here now so we will see later.”

Torino president Urbano Cairo is rumoured to be very interested in the hat-trick hero, and Mascara's response to the news was positive. “I am honoured by Torino chairman Cairo's appreciation, but I am a Catania player and I want to do well with this shirt,” declared the attacker.
