Jay Simpson has set himself a target of scoring ten goals for West Bromwich Albion during his loan spell at the Hawthorns, and making a real contribution to the Baggies' efforts to stay in the Premier League.

The 20-year old made his Albion debut in the FA Cup third round tie with Peterborough, a game which ended in a 1-1 draw. The player was not too disappointed though, despite his new side failing to beat League One opposition at home.

"It's the FA cup, anyone can win. A lot of underdogs did well last season," Simpson told Albion's official website.

"It was good to get 45 minutes under my belt, and I want to build up my match fitness now."

Simpson enjoyed a highly successful loan spell at Millwall last season, helping save the Lions from the drop, winning the League One Player-of-the-Year award in the process. Now  he believes he can make a similar impact at The Hawthorns.

"I had a relegation battle with Millwall last season and helped them stay up. I'm confident I can do the same here," he added. "West Brom are good enough to stay up."

Albion's next test is a trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, and Simpson is hoping for a positive result in what is likely to be a passionate local derby against in-form opponents.

"Villa have broken into the top four, at Arsenal's expense, and are a good young side - but anyone can beat anyone. We need to focus on getting three points," Simspson added, by way of conclusion.
