Forest Eyeing Stoke Midfielder?
Championship club Nottingham Forest could be set to bid for Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan...
According to a report in the British tabloid the Daily Mirror, Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest could move for Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan in an attempt to ensure survival.
The 24-year-old joined the Potters in January and while he played an integral part in helping them achieve promotion to the Premier League, he has only made four league appearances this season.
It is claimed that Forest manager Colin Calderwood was present at Stoke's Carling Cup tie in midweek to check on the Republic of Ireland international.
Meanwhile, Calderwood believes that his side can escape relegation this season, despite already being five points from safety, if they learn to defend against set-pieces.
"What we do have to tie up is the importance of set-plays and defending them," said Calderwood.
He continued: "It is naïve in the extreme at the minute and we must improve. If we can tighten up on that it will be significant because the number of opportunities we afford to the opposition otherwise are minimal.
"It is something that can be worked out."
