Pompey Duo Can't Wait To Pull On Charlton Shirt

Portsmouth defensive duo Linvoy Primus and Martin Cranie both completed loan moves to Charlton Athletic this summer and the pair can't wait to get started for the Addicks.

Charlton Athletic announced the loan captures of Linvoy Primus and Martin Cranie this summer, but neither player has made an appearance for the East London club so far this season. Although they have had to drop down a division to get some competitive football action, morale is still high and they can not wait to get going.

Primus, who is 34-years-old now, began his career as a youngster with the Addicks. He made four appearances between 1992 and 1994 before moving on to Barnet. While it has not been confirmed, the latest indication from manager Alan Pardew points to Primus making his second debut for the club against Wolves at the weekend.

"I would think there is every chance that Linvoy will be involved on Saturday," said Pardew. "In terms of selection, I've got plenty of thinking to do ahead of the weekend."

Cranie, who is 13 years younger than Primus, should also don the Charlton shirt for the first team this Saturday. While the England U21 international feels he is more capable at the heart of the defence, the signs are that he will be performing in a full back role.

Cranie explained: "Alan Pardew has told me I'm likely to be playing at right-back. It's not my favourite position, but it's where I play for England U21s and I am more than happy to fill in there."

Jam-packed

Cranie says that there are positives and negatives of being on the books at a Premier League club and that he is well prepared for the challenge ahead of him at Charlton.

"I have found it pretty frustrating at Pompey over the last year or so. It is hard when you are getting overlooked every week. I haven't much chance of breaking through at the moment with Glen Johnson, an England international, there at right-back and people like Sol Campbell ain the centre of defence.

"Having said that, the club has a big squad packed full of superb players and I have learnt so much just from training with them.

"I am really excited about my debut. If I make it against Wolves, they're in great form and it's a big test but I am more than ready."
