The Amsterdam giants announced on their official website that they will pay their Eridivisie rivals €16.25million for the 19-year-old, who will sign on a four-year deal.

The transaction comprehensively tops the previous record fee paid by a Dutch club – which, funnily enough, involved Ajax buying Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from Heerenveen.

Sulejmani, who received the Johan Cruyff award for outstanding young talent after netting 15 times in 34 games last season, becomes Marco van Basten’s second signing of the summer after Argentine striker Dario Cvitanich.

Both players’ arrival at the Amsterdam ArenA could signal the departure of Huntelaar, who has been strongly linked with the likes of Barcelona, Tottenham and Manchester United.
