Eindhoven side PSV are struggling domestically as well as on Champions League level this season. Therefore, they're eager to strengthen their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

The reigning Dutch champions still want to add a new striker to their squad and are in the market for a defensive minded player with experience at the highest level, too.

According to De Telegraaf, PSV have set their eye on Bayern Munich midfielder Mark van Bommel to bring in the necessary experience at the Eredivisie outfit.

The Dutchman is the first non-German captain of the Bavarian powerhouse, but has come in for criticism this season as a result of his temperament. Van Bommel seems set for the Allianz Arena exit door once his contract expires next summer.

The 31-year-old holding midfielder played for PSV before from 1999-2005 and his previous spell at the Eindhoven giants might tempt him to return to his beloved team.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Oranje international is set for a return to his native country. According to Bild, the former Barcelona man is on his way to Schalke 04, while Van Bommel has also been linked with various foreign clubs.
