Almeria have confirmed that they will no longer continue with the services of Gonzalo Arconada as their head coach.

The humble Andalucian outfit succumbed 1-0 to Sporting Gijon overnight but according to Madrid-based daily Marca, club president Alfonso Garcia Gabarron had told Arconada even before the squad travelled to Asturias that the 47-year-old would no longer be needed at the Estadio del Mediterraneo.

Although Almeria have yet to release an official statement, several names have already popped up as possible replacements, the most prominent of which is Hector Cuper.

Arconada took over from Unai Emery at the beginning of the new campaign and made a decent start, guiding the rojiblancos to three wins in the opening five games, but the side have since picked up just one measly league victory in their last 11 outings.

Arconada becomes the fifth coach to get the sack so far this season following the departures of Manolo Zambrano (Recreativo Huelva), Cuco Ziganda (Osasuuna), Bartolome Marquez (Espanyol) and Bernd Schuster (Real Madrid).

Almeria currently lie in 16th place in the standings with 16 points, three clear of the relegation zone.
