'I've never heard of him' - Spartak Moscow coach Valeri Karpin denies pursuit of AC Milan's Marco Amelia

The Russian club's trainer has shot down speculation linking his side with a move for the Rossoneri No.2 by audaciously claiming he is not aware of the keeper's credentials
Spartak Moscow coach Valeri Karpin has categorically denied reports linking his team with Marco Amelia, after stating he has never heard of the AC Milan goalkeeper.

The 29-year-old had been touted for a potential move to Russia after being believed to have grown unhappy at playing second fiddle to Christian Abbiati, but the former Real Sociedad midfielder insists no such deal is presently being lined up.

"Absolutely not, we are honestly not in negotiations [with Amelia] and I do not even know who he is," revealed Karpin to MilanNews.

Karpin was then quizzed on the prospect of landing any Serie A stars in the near future, after seeing the likes of Salvatore Bocchetti and Domenico Criscito carve out successful careers in the Russian Premier League.

"In life, never say never, but right now we have players on our radar. Italian footballers definitely interest me, so maybe we'll do something in the future," concluded Karpin.

Spartak are currently fourth in the RPL standings, while AC Milan sit in second place in the Serie A table.
