Romanian outfit Rapid Bucharest have appointed Ioan Andone as their coach for the remainder of the season, declaring at a press conference that they have handed him a two-month contract with the possibility of another three years should he prove a success.

The Granata club, who are the three-times champions of Romania, have endured a comparatively poor season by their high standards and presently linger in seventh in the First Division standings, four points shy of Timisoara, who occupy fifth.

Already the board have set down a very firm objective for the 50-year-old coach, who was last in charge of CFR Cluj 18 months ago. Rapid expect to finish in the Europa League places his season and have less than two thirds of the season to turn their fortunes around.

Speaking at the press conference called to announce his arrival, Andone indicated that the club have “10 finals to win” before the conclusion of the present season.
