Dick Advocaat Appointed AZ Alkmaar Coach
Advocaat replaces Ronald Koeman at Eredivisie club…
AZ Alkmaar have revealed that Belgium manager Dick Advocaat, who was unable to guide the country to next summer's World Cup finals, has joined their management team in a full-time capacity.
Advocaat replaces departed manager Ronald Koeman, after the Belgian FA granted the Dutchman permission to combine the two roles.
The 62-year-old, who last managed an Eredivisie side in 1998 when he was boss of PSV Eindhoven, will begin coaching AZ this week, the day after AZ's final Champions League tie against Standard Liege.
Despite already being eliminated from Europe's premier cup competition, the final game in the group stage is far from a dead rubber as AZ require a win in order to progress to the Europa League.
Advocaat has already stated his ambition: he wants to secure European football next season: "If we don't succeed in that, I will have failed," he is reported to have told Associated Press.
