Manchester United's Ryan Giggs Wants To Manage Wales
Wing wizard has managerial ambitions...
Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has claimed that he would one day relish the opportunity to manage the Welsh national team when he finally decides to hang up his boots.
Giggs, who turns 36 later this month, has enjoyed an illustrious playing career as he boasts 11 top flight titles and two Champions League winners' medals to his name amongst many other individual and team accolades.
The United star decided to retire from international duty back in 2007 with 64 caps to his name but he has hinted that he hopes to one day return to the Wales fold in a managerial capacity in the future.
"I think if you've played for your country and want to go into coaching or management, that has got to be the ultimate job to do," Giggs told the Independent on Sunday.
"The build-up [to a major tournament] gets you excited as a fan; I can only imagine what it's like as a player and I'll never experience that."
Wales have failed to qualify for a major international tournament since the 1958 World Cup and Giggs believes this is certainly a statistic that needs to be redressed.
"We should be making sure long-term that Wales get to a major championship," he added.
"That would have a massive effect on kids coming through. If they're torn whether to choose rugby or football, which is a big issue in Wales, and they watch a European Championship or World Cup with their national team in, they might just concentrate on football."
