The Sun reports that the Hull squad were enjoying a night out in the Opera House Casino in Scarborough when an incident occured at around 3am.

A Hull source told the tabloid that the spat follows 'weeks of simmering tension' between the frontmen, as King continually keeps the wiley veteran from the starting XI of his home town club.

It is believed that Windass, 39, made a remark to which King took offence and a melee ensued.

The Sun quotes a witness as saying: “Windass appeared to say something to King that had him raging like a bull. King was shouting, ‘You b******. Wait until I tell my boy what you said’.

“Windass shouted back, ‘It was a joke. You know **** all about anything’.

“King then threw himself at Windass, headbutting him in the face. There was blood and drinks were sent flying.

“It was embarrassing. They were like snarling animals.”

The source also revealed that the behaviour of the club's members was 'appalling', and that King was abusive towards staff after declaring that his watch had been stolen.

The source continued: “Staff clearly saw him put it [the watch] in his own pocket. It seemed like he was trying to cause trouble.

“King also swore at the receptionist. When the players finally left at 4.30am everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

“Their behaviour was violent and appalling.”

Richard Koval-Meth, who is the gaming manager of the venue, played down the incident and stated that the allegedly stolen watch was found in King's own pocket.

He said: “There was a fracas, but it only lasted a minute or two.”

The club were also keen to downplay the significence of the incident.

Through a spokesperson, this statement was issued: “It was an unfortunate incident. The club decline to comment any further."
