Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has revealed his fury at Hearts, labelling the Scottish Premier League side as 'unethical'.

The Championship leaders are attempting to sign the Jambos' club captain, Christophe Berra, who is also said to be interesting a number of clubs in England's Premier League.

Wolves bid £1.5 million for Berra in the summer, which was turned down, and yesterday Hearts revealed they had turned down a £2m bid from the midlands-based side.

Hearts are keen to receive at least £3m for Berra, but in rejecting their bid publicly, they have infuriated McCarthy, who claims he has had no official correspondence from Csaba Laszlo's men over the bid.

"It's an attempt to alert everybody out there what we've done. I think it's unethical," McCarthy raged to BBC Sport.

"We have made a bid. I won't confirm or deny what the bid was, but it was put out on Sky News that we had had a bid turned down.

"Why is that? Why not pick the phone up and say 'no, we are not accepting that'?

"I just don't think it's right. We have bid and that offer remains."

Berra was expected to leave the Edinburgh side within days of the transfer window opening, due to reported financial problems at the club, but if an agreement cannot be reached within the next three days, the Scotland defender will remain at Tynecastle.
