Fiorentina forward Mario Gomez has vowed to win back his place in the Germany squad this season.
The former Bayern Munich striker suffered two serious injuries last season and even though he managed to return to action before the conclusion of the 2013-14 campaign, Joachim Low left the 29-year-old out of his squad for this summer's World Cup.
Gomez has already previously admitted that it was tough watching his country triumph in Brazil without him but he insists that all he is thinking about now is forcing his way back into the Germany squad ahead of Euro 2016.
"Of course, I would like to return to the national team again - and I will," the Viola attacker told Sport Bild Plus.
For now, though, Gomez's sole concern is on helping Fiorentina win Saturday's daunting Serie A opener against last season's runners-up, Roma, at the Stadio Olimpico.
"Our preparation so far has been good and we are ready for the start of the league," he insisted. "After the game against Roma, we will know where we stand."
Gomez will be determined to hit the ground running in Serie A as Germany face Argentina in a friendly in Dusseldorf on September 3 before kicking off their Euro 2016 qualification campaign against Scotland in Dortmund four days later.
