thumbnail Hello,

The defender has revealed he is back in training and could be fit in time to play in Dortmund's opening league match in August

Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic is in line to make a return from injury for the beginning of the new Bundesliga campaign after resuming training on Sunday.

The 25-year-old has spent the last eight months out of action after he suffered a knee cruciate ligament injury in Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat against Wolfsburg in November.

Jurgen Klopp had hoped that Subotic would recover in time to return to the squad before the end of last season but, although his rehabilitation has gone well, the defender did not recuperate fast enough to feature.

But Subotic has now delivered the news that he could be set to win his fitness race in time to play in Dortmund’s opening league match against Bayer Leverkusen on August 23.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Subotic wrote: “After my eight-month injury break, today I got to train with my team."

The Serbia international was part of the successful Dortmund side that won back-to-back league titles in 2011 and 2012 after the defender formed a solid partnership with central defensive colleague, Mats Hummels.
