The Volkswagen Arena outfit beat BVB on home soil earlier in the season, but squandered a 1-0 lead to the Schwarzgelben at Signal Iduna Park to lose 2-1 on April 5.
However, the former Nurnberg coach is adamant that his side can pull off an upset during Tuesday's if they perform to the best of their abilities, despite Dortmund's recent impressive wins over Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
"We proved in that game that we can hurt them," Hecking told reporters.
"We want to try and make use of our chance now. We've have seen all of Borussia Dortmund's recent games and, taking those matches into account, I think it's fair to say we are the underdogs going into this one.
"BVB played extremely well against Real Madrid and Bayern. We are in good form too though.
"We need to continue reducing the number of errors we make though because, at this level, it's often the little things that make the difference."
Dortmund and Wolfsburg kick off at 20:30CET on Tuesday.
