Klopp eager to banish 'shadow' of Schalke defeat

Borussia Dortmund were beaten 2-1 in each of last season's Ruhr derby matches but the 46-year-old is determined to regain bragging rights on Saturday
Jurgen Klopp is eager for victory in Saturday's Ruhr derby against Schalke in order to banish the "shadow" of last season's double defeat for Borussia Dortmund.

Schalke recorded a 2-1 win in each of the two Bundesliga clashes in 2012-13 as Dortmund surrendered their title to Bayern Munich and Klopp is itching to set the record straight against their fierce local rivals.

"That is the shadow that lay over us from last season," he told a press conference. "When you sign here, you know that you have 32 games and two derbies. These are the most special games of the season.

"These derbies never lose their uniqueness. We have to work hard to get a good result. Their attack is extremely well put together."

Dortmund head into Saturday's encounter at the Veltins Arena with an eight-point advantage over Schalke after nine rounds of the Bundesliga, and also enjoyed midweek success with a 2-1 Champions League win over Arsenal, while Jens Keller's side slumped to a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea in the same competition.
