Hummels: Second place and a cup win would be perfect for Borussia Dortmund
The Germany defender is still hoping to emerge from the season with silverware, but accepts that catching up with Bayern Munich in the league is unrealistic
Mats Hummels is hoping that Borussia Dortmund can end their campaign with second place in the Bundesliga and a cup triumph.Jurgen Klopp's side have won the title for the last two seasons, but sit 15 points off runaway league leaders Bayern Munich this time out.
However, they remain in the hunt for both the DFB-Pokal the Champions League, and the centre-back is hoping to end the campaign with silverware.
"Leverkusen have shown stable performances and certainly deserve second place," the 24-year-old told Bild am Sonntag.
"Second place and winning the cup [would now be a perfect end to the season for us]."
Thanks in part to their remarkable European run, BVB's profile has risen this season, and Hummels feels players can become stars at Signal Iduna Park.
"If you are daring enough, then you can," he continued.
"But I do not know if this is a desirable goal. The point is to be successful - and to have fun. Whether I'm famous in every country in the world or not makes no difference to me."
Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen kick off at the BayArena at 17:30CET on Sunday.
