Schweinsteiger: Bundesliga title is Bayern's main goal
The Germany international prefers domestic success over European glory this season, while he thinks Borussia Dortmund can go far in the Champions League
Bastian Schweinsteiger has made it clear that winning the Bundesliga title is Bayern Munich's top priority this season, with the Champions League as an afterthought. The Bavarians have missed out on the top domestic trophy in the last two seasons as Borussia Dortmund proved to be too strong, but they currently sit atop of the league table, holding a comfortable lead over Bayer Leverkusen and BVB.
"My main objective is winning the Bundesliga title. That's the top priority this season. Of course, I also have my eyes on the Champions League, though," Schweinsteiger told Kicker.
"Last year was obviously very disappointing for us as we did not win any silverware. Unfortunately, we were not paying enough attention to certain details in a number of games.
"We have significantly improved in that aspect this season. Our team is a bit stronger now. That's why we are now winning games by being patient. That is a quality in itself."
The midfielder also had his say on rivals Borussia Dortmund, and believes that they can go far in the Champions League.
"You can expect a lot from Dortmund. Their biggest advantage is that not many teams know how they play. Manchester City, Real Madrid and Ajax found out the hard way. They can go far in the Champions League."
Dortmund will have to deal with Shakhtar Donetsk in the round of 16 in the elite European tournament in which they were runner-up last campaign to Chelsea.
