Neuer believes Adler could play for Germany again
By Charlie Scott
Oct 2, 2012 3:15:00 PM
The Bayern Munich goalkeeper is of the opinion that his old rival for a place in the DFB Eleven could be in line for a return to die Mannschaft if he keeps up his form
Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer believes Hamburg's Rene Adler may one day play for the national team again if he maintains his excellent performance in the Bundesliga since the start of the season. The former Leverkusen man has enjoyed a fine start to his career at the Imtech Arena, and impressed once again last Saturday, when he made a string of brilliant saves as Thorsten Fink's men claimed a 1-0 win over Hannover.
Neuer believes his old foe for a place between the sticks for Germany has all the qualities necessary to play for Die Mannschaft.
"I think that Andreas Kopke [Germany's goalkeeping coach] and Joachim Low are watching him," Neuer told Bild.
"He has shown some very good performances this season, but it remains the decision of the authorities. I trust Rene can make the step up to the national team."
When asked if Adler's performances were what he expected, Neuer said: "You never know what he can do. When Rene is fit, he is a very good goalkeeper."
