Vukcevic in 'induced coma' after car crash
The former Germany youth international was involved in a serious road accident on Friday, and is described by his club as having sustained 'life-threatening injuries'
Hoffenheim midfielder Boris Vukcevic is in an induced coma after his car crashed into a truck on Friday. The 22-year-old, who has made 55 Bundesliga appearances for die Hoffe since joining from Stuttgart's youth team in 2008, underwent an operation after the collision and is now purported to be in a 'critical condition'.
Vukcevic had to be airlifted from the site of the accident, which took place on the road between Hoffenheim and Heidelberg. The driver of the truck reportedly escaped with only minor injuries.
"The firefighters had to cut the driver out of the wrecked vehicle. He was then taken away in a helicopter," said an eyewitness.
Meanwhile, Hoffenhim released a statement following the crash to confirm the 'life-threatening injuries' sustained by the midfielder.
"This news has shaken us," Hoffenheim general manager Andreas Muller told reporters. "The team, the coach and everybody here is shocked. "Our thoughts are with Boris and his family."
The German side are due to host Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
