Howedes content with victory over Greuther Furth
The Schalke defender is satisfied with the win having preserved his team's unbeaten start to the season, also crediting his opponents for putting effort into the game
Benedikt Howedes has laid down the law for his Schalke team-mates to improve on finishing the goal-scoring chances that come their way but nevertheless maintained his side did enough to secure a 2-0 win against Greuther Furth.Julian Draxler and Lewis Holtby combined to condemn the promoted outfit to a second home defeat in a row, but still missed a hatful of chances that could have secured the outcome of the match before the final whistle.
"Furth fought well. They went for every ball. but we expected that," the 24-year-old told the club's official website. "However, I think we were the better team."
"Still, we did not finish enough chances. We had many good moments and scoring opportunities, which could have led to two or three more goals, but we didn't take them.
"The important thing is that we picked up three points. That's what matters most in the end."
The Royal Blues' latest result puts them level on points with local rivals and German champions Borussia Dortmund. Either team lies behind Jupp Heynckes' Bayern Munich, who have enjoyed a blistering start to the season.
