Arango: My free kicks are better than Ronaldo's
The Venezuelan international believes that his dead-ball ability surpasses that of the Real Madrid star, following his goal at the weekend
Juan Arango believes that he is more deadly from a free kick than Cristiano Ronaldo, after he helped fire Borussia Monchengladbach to victory on Saturday. The talented attacker scored as Gladbach overcame Hoffenheim 2-1 at home, with Arango scoring the match-winning goal from a set-piece in the 79th minute.
The Venezuelan maestro believes he now deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as his Portuguese counterpart, and aims to net more free kicks than the Madrid star during the new season.
"I do not need to hide behind Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of free kicks. Last season he scored two direct free-kick goals - I scored three. And this season, I want more - it's a goal of mine," explained Arango to Bild, who also admitted than repetition is not the key to his success.
"I don't need to remain behind for half an hour after training to practice. I just need a few minutes. I just know how to do it," he said.
"Last year he was a bit overshadowed by Marco Reus, now Arango can show what he is capable of in these moments," added Gladbach manager Max Eberl.
