The FCB sporting director is looking forward to Sunday's encounter against Dortmund, and is keen to bring home the trophy for the fifth time in the club's historyBayern Munich's upcoming DFL-Supercup tussle with reigning German champions Borussia Dortmund.
The former Germany international has stressed that Sunday's seasonal curtain raiser will not have any influence on the new Bundesliga campaign, but is nonetheless curious to see where both teams currently stand.
"It's still pre-season, but the Supercup is obviously an important game. We're looking forward to it, and naturally we want to win," Sammer said at a press conference.
"The Supercup rarely serves as a reliable point of reference for the new Bundesliga season, but it is always closely watched, and it provides a first check on the current status quo.
"You can win the Supercup but you still have no points. And in the event you do not win it, you have not dropped any points."
Bayern last won the Supercup in 2010, when they beat Schalke 2-0.
