thumbnail Hello,

The Croatia international is likely to get plenty of playing time in the opening weeks of the 2012-13 campaign following his striking rival's ankle surgery

Mario Mandzukic has stressed that he is ready to prove his worth for Bayern Munich in the absence of first-choice striker Mario Gomez.

The Germany international went under the knife earlier this week on an ankle injury and will be sidelined for an estimated six weeks due to the knock.

And although the Croatian forward, who moved to the Allianz Arena from Wolfsburg this summer, feels sorry that Gomez picked up the injury, he is confident that he can step up and replace him adequately.

"It's a bitter blow, because he and every other player is important to us. I hope Mario gets better soon. However, I'm ready to give it my best shot if I'm selected," Mandzukic was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

Mandzukic netted 12 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg last term, and was on the scoresheet three times at Euro 2012 for his country.
