Schalke ready to challenge on all fronts, says Matip

The Cameroon international is full of ambition, with the new season on the horizon, and is eager to enjoy success in the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League
Joel Matip has claimed that Schalke will look to challenge on all fronts in the forthcoming campaign.

The Konigsblauen finished third in the 2011-12 Bundesliga to qualify for the Champions League, and Matip is keen to replicate last year's performance in the league in both the domestic cup competition and Europe next time around.

"It's very difficult to make any predictions, but we obviously want to do well in all three competitions," Matip was quoted as saying by Recklinghauser Zeitung.

"Because you finished last season in third place, you can't say that fourth place will do in the new campaign. We'll have to wait and see how we start, but it's important to start the season on a high.

"Dortmund and Bayern are the favourites to win the title. There's no denying that BVB have done some grat things in recent years."

Schalke start the new Bundesliga season with an away trip to Hannover on August 24.
