thumbnail Hello,

The Austria international hobbled off during a pre-season outing in northern Italy and it has now been decided that going under the knife is the best option for the 20-year-old

Bayern Munich have announced that David Alaba will require an operation on a foot fracture he sustained in last Friday's friendly against Napoli.

The wing-back suffered the injury during the first half of the game in Arco in northern Italy and although he was ruled out of action for six to eight weeks after consultation with club medics the following morning, they opted to wait until Monday before deciding on the best course of treatment.

Bayern, though, have now released confirmation on their official website that Alaba will undergo surgery on his left foot on Tuesday.

However, on the plus side for the Bavarians, Rafinha, who suffered ankle ligament damage against the Partenopei, does not need an operation.

The injuries sustained by Alaba and Rafinha had prompted speculation that the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League runners-up might try to sign a full-back before the start of the new season, but club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge subsequently ruled out making any panic buys.
