Reus targets Champions League knockout stages with Dortmund

The Germany international is in no doubt that the German champions can atone for last year's failure to get out of the groups by making a big impact this time around

Jurgen Klopp's men recorded a domestic double last season, finishing a commanding eight points clear of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga before beating the same opposition 5-2 in the final of the DFB-Pokal.
However, it was the Bavarians who progressed further in the Champions League, with Dortmund having bowed out in the group stages after racking up just four points from their six games.
That is something that Reus, a summer arrival from Borussia Monchengladbach, and his new colleagues are determined to put right this term.
"BVB represent their own unique philosophy and way of playing football," the Germany star told Bild.
"I have read while on vacation that my new team-mates have spoken about Champions League qualification [for the knockout stages] as a goal for the season, and I agree fully with that conviction.
"We have many international players who have gained even more international experience [at Euro 2012], so the quality is definitely there.
"So, ff we manage to play BVB's typical brand of football on the highest of stages, I'm very optimistic."
Reus admitted, though, that he is also hoping to taste some success in his new club's clashes with great rivals Schalke.
"I grew up in Dortmund; my family still lives here," the winger explained. "So I know exactly what a win in the derby means to the people of the city."
Reus, who has been capped eight times by die Mannschaft, joined Dortmund for a reported fee of €17.5 million.
