The veteran centre-back, who signed a new one-year deal with the club on Monday, has been out of action for the past three-and-a-half months with a fractured metatarsal.
However, the Belgian is now stepping up his recovery and believes he could be back on the playing field sooner than expected.
"It's gone very well and I hope I can up the intensity again tomorrow," he told FCB.tv.
"It's a target [being fit for the two cup finals]. It's a motivating factor for me, although it won't be easy. I'll give it my all and we'll see whether it's enough."
Bayern face Borussia Dortmund in the German cup final on May 12 before looking horns with Chelsea in the showpiece event of this season's Champions League.
