Nerlinger admits Bundesliga title is a lost cause for Bayern after draw with Mainz

The sporting director has seemingly given up on the league after the Bavarians only managed a stalemate on Saturday, while Dortmund extended their lead to eight points at the top
Christian Nerlinger has conceded that Borussia Dortmund will pip Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title at the end of the season after his side drew 0-0 to Mainz on Saturday.

The disappointing stalemate has all but handed the championship to Jurgen Klopp's men, who now only require one more win to successfully retain their grip on the league trophy, but the sporting director insists the team's focus is now on cup competitions.

"Regardless of our result, the championship was decided today, so I’m not going to read too much into our result and performance," said Nerlinger after the match.

"The players tried hard, but you could see they were hemmed in mentally. Our focus now is on the Champions League and the DFB Pokal."

Bayern's next match will be the Champions League semi-final first-leg against Real Madrid on Tuesday.
