The vice-captain has been omitted from Jupp Heynckes' first XI for Wednesday's pivotal clash against BVB, with Toni Kroos and Luiz Gustavo preferred in defensive midfieldBayern Munich will be without the services of Bastian Schweinsteiger from the start of Wednesday's Bundesliga top of the table clash against Dortmund.
The 27-year-old has only played 155 minutes in the Bundesliga since returning from an ankle injury in March, and has been left on the bench. Toni Kroos will take his spot in defensive midfield, alongside Luiz Gustavo.
The use of Kroos in a defensive area means that Thomas Muller will begin the match in the hole behind lone striker Mario Gomez, flanked by Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben on the left and right, respectively.
Dortmund, meanwhile, will be without Mario Gotze, who despite returning to training recently has been declared unfit to feature even as a substitute. Jakub 'Kuba' Blaszczykowski will continue to deputise for the 19-year-old on the right wing.
With his squad otherwise fully fit, Jurgen Klopp has chosen to keep his faith in Ilkay Gundogan, who starts in defensive midfield alongside Sebastian Kehl. The trainer pronounced Sven Bender 100 per cent fit to play, but the former 1860 Munich man will have to settle for a possible substitute appearance.
Kick-off from the Signal Iduna Park is scheduled for 20.00CET.
