Kaiserslautern 0-1 Hamburg

Hamburg clambered out of the relegation zone with a hard-fought away victory over bottom-of-the-table Kaiserslautern.

The hosts had the better of the opening exchanges, but against the run of play, Marcell Jansen put Thorsten Fink's men ahead mid-way through the first half.

Kaiserslautern failed to get back into the match from that point, leaving Hamburg to halt a miserable run that saw them lose five of their previous six games.

Bremen 0-3 Mainz

Mainz recorded the result of the day, running out 3-0 victors against Werder Bremen at the Weser Stadion.

Adam Szalai got the ball rolling for the visitors after just 19 minutes, before Maxim Choupo-Moting doubled his side's lead minutes after the break. Choupo-Moting doubled his personal tally with a quarter of an hour remaining to rub salt into Thomas Schaaf's men's wounds.

This result sees Werder Bremen slip to seventh place, level on points with Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.

Leverkusen 0-2 Freiburg

Freiburg came away from their trip to the BayArena with a surprising 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, heaping more pressure on the hosts' coach Robin Dutt.

A Julian Schuster effort after a matter of minutes gave Christian Streich's side a shock lead, and although the visitors were subjected to heavy pressure for the remainder of the first period, they pulled further ahead shortly after the break through Daniel Caligiuri.

The win allows Freiburg pull further away from the drop zone, and stay in 13th place.

Augsburg 2-1 Koln

Koln have found themselves in an unwanted relegation battle after falling to a 2-1 defeat to Augsburg in Bavaria in a key battle at the bottom of the table.

Koo Ja-Cheol's great run of form continued, with the South Korean putting his side ahead midway though the first half. Lukas Podolski got the visitors back on level terms with half-time looming, but the parity only lasted a couple of minutes, with Nando Rafael putting the hosts back in front on the stroke of the break.

Augsburg failed to extend their lead in the second half, despite a host of opportunities, but it was to matter little. With the defeat, Koln slip into the relegation play-off place, two points behind Augsburg, who move into 14th.

Hertha Berlin 1-4 Wolfsburg

Hertha Berlin's top-flight status looks to be increasingly threatened as Otto Rehhagel's men crashed to a 4-1 home defeat to Wolfsburg.

The hosts made a promising start to the match, with Levan Kobiashvili putting his side ahead less than a quarter of an hour into the match. The visitors fought back, however, and they were soon in front, as Christoph Janker put the ball past his own keeper and a Patrick Helmes strike turned the match on its head.

Two quick-fire goals from late on by Mario Mandzukic and Helmes ensured that Felix Magath's men left the capital with all three points.

This result ensures that Wolfsburg's unlikely charge for a Europa League place continues.
