Bayern Munich defender Daniel Van Buyten has stressed that his season is not over just yet, as he is eager to return to full match fitness again as soon as possible.
The towering defender fractured a metatarsal in the Bundesliga restart fixture away to Borussia Monchengladbach, and remains some way off playing football, as he can still only get about on crutches.
Nevertheless, the former Olympique de Marseille centre-back has stressed that he'll make a return before the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
"I'll be back. This isn't a new situation for me, and I know the kind of character I am. The season is far from over," Van Buyten was quoted as saying on Bayern's official website.
"I knew at once that something was wrong. My foot was twisted in my boot. After just a few steps I knew it was impossible to play on. The bone had moved and the pain was getting worse.
"I'm having a lot of treatment to bring down the swelling. Fortunately, I’m hardly feeling any pain. I'm not planning anything, and I don't have any sports rehab goals at the present time. All I can do is listen to the physios and let the medics decide," the 33-year-old stated.
Bayern Munich recorded a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg last weekend in their first match since Van Buyten's injury, and sit joint first in the Bundesliga table.
