Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath has offered Diego the chance to make amends after their fall-out.
The Brazilian joined Atletico Madrid on loan after the duo fell out, with Magath threatening to drop Diego to the reserve team.
However, the former Schalke boss has offered to put the rift to one side should the 26-year-old apologise for his past actions.
"I would not consider myself resentful. I am of the opinion that every man must make some mistakes, but he then must take responsibility for it," Magath told Sports-Bild.
"Clearly Diego has developed in Madrid. I think that it is fair for him to get another chance."
For his part, the former Werder Bremen man stated that he is more than amenable to the prospect of making up with Magath.
"Anything is possible. I have no problem with Felix Magath, or an issue with the past. Mr. Magath's the boss, he decides. Wolfsburg are a good and professionally managed club."
Diego has made 17 league appearances during his stint in the Spanish capital.
