Bayern Munich's Uli Hoeness: DFL Supercup could be held in Asia

The executive feels that sending the annual match overseas would be a boon for the popularity of German football
Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has opined that holding the DFL Super Cup in Asia would be a big benefit for the Bundesliga.

The competition between the defending Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal winners is held shortly before the beginning of the following season. And according to Hoeness, to have such a match hosted in the Far East would be good for business in the German top flight.

"I can certainly imagine a Super Cup final in Asia," he told Sport-Bild. "That would be good publicity, I would by no means rule it out."

The first official Super Cup was played in 1987, but the competition was disbanded after 1996. It returned in 2010, however, and is set to be a regular fixture in the coming years.
