Germany legend Sepp Maier: Borussia Monchengladbach's Marc-Andre ter Stegen is on par with Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer

The World Cup winner feels that in spite of his limited years, the young shot stopper is at the same level as the Germany No. 1

Retired Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sepp Maier has praised Borussia Monchengladbach starlet Marc-Andre ter Stegen, asserting that the 19-year-old can call himself a peer of Germany international Manuel Neuer.

The two keepers faced one another on Friday and the Gladbach man came out on top, as his side earned a 3-1 victory at the Borussia-Park. Following the match, Maier weighed the two against each another, claiming the primary difference is that the 25-year-old is more established due to his experience.

"Marc is virtually on par with Manuel Neuer," Maier told Bild. "Neuer has just preceded him, he plays for Bayern and can distinguish himself internationally.

"[Ter Stegen] is now a great goalkeeper."

Neuer has been a regular starter for the Germany senior side since the 2010 World Cup. Ter Stegen has yet to earn a call-up to Joachim Low's side, but has been nominated to the Under-21 team.
