Internacional have stated that they are confident of signing Werder Bremen defender Naldo during the January transfer window, confirming that they have made a second bid for the player.
The South American centre-half has admitted that he wants to return to Brazil in the near future, with the Porto Alegre team keen to bring him back to his homeland.
Despite the Bundesliga outfit turning down the Beira-Rio side's first offer, sporting director Fernandao has confirmed that the Brazilians have lodged a revised bid.
"We have sent a second offer," the executive told Spiegel.
"We respect the fact that they need time, because Naldo is an idol in Bremen and it will be hard to let him go.
"I am very optimistic that we will achieve a settlement and Naldo will be, in January, a player of Inter.
"Naldo has asked us to make this change possible. We are trying now, we want to buy him as well. Everyone knows him here, people love him.
“We are a big club and will play in the Copa Libertadores, a change would be the best option for him," he concluded.
The transfer fee may well prove to be a stumbling block, however, as Internacional's initial offer, believed to be €1 million, falls well short of his employers' €7m valuation.
