Sven Bender to miss Borussia Dortmund’s game against Hannover

The Germany international picked up a hip injury against Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday but could recover in time for the league clash with Mainz later this month

Borussia Dortmund will be without the services of midfielder Sven Bender for their Bundesliga match against Hannover on Sunday.

The 22-year-old suffered a hip injury during their 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening and will not be able to recover in time for this weekend’s league fixture away from home.

“Borussia Dortmund will have to do without Sven Bender for Sunday's away game (KO: 1530 CET) at Hannover 96 after the Germany international suffered a hip flexor strain in Tuesday´s Champions League match against Arsenal (1-1),” reads a statement on the club’s official website.

“The BVB midfielder could recover in time for the game at 1. FSV Mainz 05 the following week, according to club doctor Markus Braun.”

The news comes as a further blow to Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, who is already without the suspended duo Sebastian Kehl and Mario Gotze.

The defending German champions have made a disappointing start to the 2011-12 league campaign and have picked up just seven points from five matches, five fewer than leaders Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen.
