Werder Bremen's Marko Arnautovic explains his role in nightclub altercation with fans
The controversial Austrian has attempted to clarify the events that led to a flashpoint with Werder Bremen supporters
Werder Bremen striker Marko Arnautovic has defended his actions after he was alleged to have been involved in a fight with supporters inside a local nightclub. The former Twente striker claims that he came to the defence of his brother, who had been attacked by Werder fans at the venue.
"There were some young men, who attacked my brother without provocation. I then came in between them. I had to do that and then I myself suffered a blow," he explained to Bild.
Arnautovic, who has rarely seen eye-to-eye with the Bremen management, admitted that he may not be the most popular figure with the supporters after a less than stellar debut season in the Bundesliga.
He confessed: "Maybe they hate me because I have scored too few goals. That would be a shame. It has been difficult for me."
The Austrian international striker, who also had a spell on loan at Inter, moved to the Weserstadion for €6.2m last summer but has managed just three goals in 25 appearances this campaign.
