Louis van Gaal is relieved that Bayern Munich have overtaken Hannover following their 1-0 win against Moenchengladbach.
"Clearly, it was not our best game," he told reporters. "This was partly due to the organisation of Gladbach. It is always difficult against defensive teams.
"I am pleased that we did not allow many opportunities. But we did not create many chances - one in the first and three in the second half. We were very effective, that has not been common for us this year. In the second half we showed passion and conviction that we want to win.
"Of course I am very satisfied with the result because we are now finally in third place."
Bayern were held scoreless for most of the match, but Arjen Robben's solitary strike on 77 minutes was enough for die Roten to take three points. Bayern's win, coupled with Hannover's loss to Dortmund, saw the Bavarians advance to third in the Bundesliga table, putting them in position to qualify for the 2011-12 Champions League.
