thumbnail Hello,

Young Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel has attracted the interest of German powerhouse Bayern Munich with his fine performances this term.

Young midfielder Axel Witsel could be on his way out of struggling Belgian giants Standard Lige at the end of the season as German outfit Bayern Munich have shown an interest in signing the 22-year-old, TZ reports.

Bayern are eager to add some more depth to their midfield in the summer transfer window and sporting director Christian Nerlinger supposedly sees Witsel as a useful addition to the Bavarians' squad.

Witsel is a product of the Standard Liege youth academy and has developed into a key player at the Rouches since making his official debut in September 2006. The Belgium international has since made well over 100 official appearances for Liege.

Nerlinger saw Witsel live in action in Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier between Belgium and Austria and witnessed the midfielder helping the Rode Duivels to a 2-0 win by scoring a brace.

The midfielder's current contract with Liege runs until the summer of 2013 and an offer in the region of €8 million would be needed to lure him away from the Belgian side.
